Rise Pizzeria’s latest upscale venture is set in the historic Caltrain depot in San Mateo. While the existing patio space was sufficient, it needed to be converted for year-round use to make the investment worthwhile. “Bottom line, we needed more seats usable year-round to generate the revenue necessary for the business model to succeed,” they noted.
However, two challenges quickly emerged. First, clear glass walls were ruled out to maintain a certain aesthetic, as the Pizzeria faced a high volume of sidewalk traffic. The second hurdle was California’s changing Covid regulations. At one point, the state prohibited opening walls, only to later mandate them after fixed walls had already been installed.
Rise Pizzaria uses:
- Sloped Cabrio Fixed Roof
- Cabrio G2 Sliding Wall System with polycarbonate panel material
Result
The solution was found in polycarbonate walls, which can be opened and or shut on demand. The end result is a striking nighttime effect, with the interior lighting creating a ”glowing ice cube” appearance that diffuses into the surrounding area. During the day, these walls soften harsh sunlight, filling the interior with a gentle, pleasant glow for customers.
